What to Bring to the Wyoming DMV for Your Permit Test

Don't get sent home. Here's the complete checklist — documents, fees, forms, and what to leave at home.

Before You Go

  • Call your local WYDOT office to check if you need an appointment
  • Have your parent or guardian review the Wyoming Driver's Manual with you
  • Make sure your parent has their own ID and a proof of address ready
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork
  • Double-check that all documents are originals, not copies
  • Get a good night's sleep before the test day
  • Practice the permit test questions online using the WYDOT sample test

Required Documents

Proof of Identity (Primary Document)

  • Valid U.S. Passport or Passport Card
  • Certified U.S. Birth Certificate (with raised seal)
  • Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)
  • Consular Report of Birth Abroad
  • Valid Foreign Passport with valid U.S. Visa

Bring the original document only; photocopies are not accepted for the primary identity proof.

Proof of Social Security Number

  • Social Security Card (original)
  • W-2 Form with full SSN
  • Paystub with full SSN
  • SSA-1099 Form
  • Non-SSA-1099 Form

Wyoming requires proof of your SSN. If you don't have a card, bring a W-2 or paystub that clearly shows your full number.

Proof of Wyoming Residency

Bring 2 of these:

  • Utility bill (electric, water, gas, internet) in parent's name
  • Bank statement with current address
  • Parent's lease or mortgage statement
  • School transcript or report card with address
  • Official mail from a government agency

Wyoming generally requires two documents to prove residency if you are applying for a REAL ID. If you are under 18, these usually must be in your parent or guardian's name.

Parental / Guardian Consent (applicants under 18)

  • Parent or legal guardian must sign the application in person at the office
  • Parent must provide their own proof of identity and residency
  • No notarization is required if the parent appears in person
  • Legal guardians must bring court documentation proving guardianship

If you have one parent, that parent must appear. If you are in foster care, the caseworker or designated guardian must appear with proper documentation.

This $10 fee covers the learner's permit application. If you fail the written test, there is a small re-test fee (usually $5) to try again.
